Towards the south of the island, set back on a gorgeous hillside lies Kefalos, just a 30 minute transfer journey from the airport.
This peaceful town is great for a truly relaxing getaway. The hillside village boasts white washed villages, quaint Greek churches and little souvenir shops. At the bottom of the hill along the coast is Kamari, a pretty seaside town. Here you will find the majority of the restaurants, beach tavernas and small shops.
Since the old town of Kefalos remains, ancient ruins of temples and amphitheatres still stand, so history enthusiasts will have something to enjoy.
For simple beach lovers however, you’ve come to the right place. The long stretch of golden beach provides a perfect base to top up your tan or to indulge in one of many water sports on offer.
Being in Kefalos you’re in a great position to reach other parts of Kos. The beautiful Paradise Beach lies just up the coast and towns such as Kardamena on the east coast and even as far as Kos Town right on the northern tip are reachable by bus.
As Kamari (the part of town by the sea) is purpose built, there are restaurants and cafes to cater for everybody’s tastes, ranging from typically Greek to favourable international dishes such as Italian and British.
Nightlife here isn’t the liveliest in Kos, however a few bars are dotted throughout the town offering a place to unwind with a cool glass of wine or a cocktail. Entertainment here varies between traditional Greek dancing and singing to modern music and karaoke, so there’s something for all ages to enjoy. If you fancy a livelier night out, head to nearby Kardamena where you’ll experience a true party atmosphere.
