Introduction to Turkey
Turkey is one of the most popular holiday destinations for European visitors. With as many as 4 million Brits travelling this year, it’s now over taken Spain as the UK's most popular country to holiday. Many of Turkey's first time visitors say they will be back as soon as possible; don’t be surprised if you are one of them!
Turkey is more or less rectangular in shape - 400 miles wide (north to south) and 1000 miles long (east to west). It has varied terrain from pine forests to vast empty plains, of rivers and lakes and scorched desert wastes. Where ever you go in Turkey you are never far from mountains, with 89 with peaks over 10,000 feet. The Taurus Mountains along the south coast is the country's longest range and one that most visitors to Turkey will come to know.
If it’s the history of Turkey that’s your reason for travelling you won’t be disappointed, Turkey has more classical ruins than Greece, and more Islamic monuments than Arabia.
Most visitors to Turkey head for the coastal resorts on the south of the country from Kusadasi on the north west of the coast, down to Alanya on the south coast. Istanbul is also a popular city break destination and we offer trips to Istanbul too.
The principle reasons for choosing Turkey is the warm to very hot climate depending on the time of year you travel. Being outside the Euro zone your money will go further too.
The Turkish people are friendly and hospitable to all visitors. Don’t forget to try one of Turkey’s many bazaars to pick up some bargain souvenirs of your trip, everyone who visits does, whether it’s a fake Rolex watch, leather good or some lemon tea you are sure to enjoy your time. Don’t forget to practice your bargaining skills.
Great beaches with warm waters of the Med and Aegean Sea and with often dramatic pine covered mountains running down to the sea, make Turkey a perfect choice for your next summer holiday. Whether you are looking for a beauty of the blue lagoon of Olu Deniz, the bustle of Marmaris or the relaxing resort of Kalkan you are sure to have a great time.
Getting around Turkey is easy and cheap, all villages will have dolmus buses, these are small mini buses privately owned and are a cross between a taxi and a bus, they running on a set route. On market day you could well find yourself sharing a seat with a lady with a box of live chicken on her way to market. Many of these dolmus buses will connect to the larger towns in the area, normally terminating at a bus stop where bus services connect the larger towns and cities.
