Hisaronu is located in the cooler mountains behind the beach resort of Olu Deniz (about 15 minutes by dolmus bus and only about 3 to 5 km away) and the resort of Ovacik on the road to Fethiye.
Hisaronu is devoted entirely to tourism. Once the home of just goats and their herders it’s now a bustling resorts with many hotels, bars and restaurants to cater for all tastes. Many guests staying here will spend the day on the blue lagoon beach at Olu Deniz or in the market and beach town of Fethiye both reached quickly by dolmus bus.
Hisaronu is always a little cooler in the evening than the beach area of Olu Deniz. It’s surrounded by mountains where often you will spot hang gliders as its one of the worlds top destination for this extreme sport. The hotels spread across the whole valley along either side of the road to Fethiye and range from simple family run pensions to modern 4 and 5* all inclusive type hotels.
At the height of the season the resort can be quiet lively with many music bars and clubs open late.
About 30 minutes on foot is the Greek ghost town of Karmilassos ( Kaya Koyu in Turkish) As was so common in the Greek/ Turk population exchange when the Greeks moved out the Turks didn’t move in leaving entire villages and towns to go to ruin. These days a few are now populated with a handful of pensions and private cottages that have opened for business.
The area is a great place for walkers, particularly early on in the season when the area is lush and green with red poppies covering the ground. Explore the forest paths winding down to coves and hidden bays.
